Role of Information Technology in Education Modernization

According to Resnick (2002) there are three important things to think about re-associated with the modernization of education: (1) how we learn (how people learn), (2) what we learned (what people learn), and (3) when and where we learn (where and when people learn). By looking at the answers to these three questions, and the potential that IT can be used as described earlier, the role of IT in education moderninasi nation can be formulated.

The first question, how do we learn, is associated with learning method or model 3. Way interaction between teachers and students is crucial learning model. Related to this, according to Pannen (2005), currently learning paradigm changes associated with dependence on the teacher and the teacher's role in the learning process. The learning process should not 100% rely on another teacher (instructor dependent) but more focused on the students (student-centered learning or independent instructor). Teachers also no longer be used as the sole reference all knowledge but rather as a facilitator or consultant.

Possible role of IT in the learning model is very clear. The presence of e-learning with all the variations of the levels has facilitated this change. In general, e-learning can be defined as learning delivered via all electronic media, including, Internet, intranet, extranet, satellite, audio / video tape, interactive TV, and CD ROM (Govindasamy, 2002). According to Kirkpatrick (2001), e-learning has encouraged democratization of teaching and learning process by providing greater control over the learning to the student. Education held in a democratic and fair and not discriminatory to uphold human rights, religious values, cultural values, and national diversity.

In general, the role of e-learning in the learning process can be grouped into two: complementary and substitution. The first assumes that the ways of learning with face-to-face meetings are still running but coupled with IT-assisted interaction model, while the second most IT-assisted learning process is done. Currently, the regulations issued by the government has also facilitated the use of e-learning as a substitute for conventional learning process.

Utah realizes the A-F grading system is terrible and so should Florida
